D-backs to go Cruz-ing?

Heard the D-backs are talking about trying to re-sign reliever Juan Cruz. The right-hander has had trouble finding a deal out there because he is a Type A free agent and therefore the team that signs him would have to surrender its No. 1 pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft (unless that team has already signed a Type A free agent then it would have to give up its second-round pick).

Obviously, Cruz would help strengthen the bullpen and the D-backs could figure that the move essentially pays for itself in that they had budgeted money to sign the first-round and supplemental round picks that they would have gotten had Cruz signed somewhere else. They could use that money to instead sign Cruz to a one-year deal.

What do you guys think?

Yes, they should sign him!! He’s a zillion times better than schoenweiss and will probably cost less. Why didn’t they think of that sooner?
