Tom Gordon update

RHP Tom Gordon threw two innings in an extended spring game Thursday. The right-hander, who is on the disabled list while he recovers from elbow surgery, threw 30 pitches. Gordon struggled a bit with his command in the first inning, but breezed through the second.

“My first eight to 10 pitches were pretty wild,” he said. “I found my rhythm after that. I didn’t expect to go two innings, but I didn’t want to leave it the way it was after the first.”

Melvin said that Gordon will next pitch in a rehab game Sunday for Triple-A Reno. After that it’s possible Gordon would get three or four more outings before being activated.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a long time,” Melvin said.

That can only be good news for an Arizona bullpen that has struggled to this point in the season.
