Davis “of interest” to D-backs

Though his name has been bandied about in trade discussions, D-backs left-hander Doug Davis has made no secret of his desire to stay in Arizona.

Davis’ agent Steve Canter declined to say whether he has had any specific discussions about a contract with the D-backs saying only that he and Arizona GM have a very good relationship and do talk.

“Doug is a player of interest to the organization,” Canter said of the D-backs. “How things play out with respect to the future remains to be seen.”

Davis is in the final year of a three-year $22 million extension he signed after being traded from Milwaukee to Arizona prior to the 2007 season.

Last month, Davis said he would consider returning to Arizona next season if he were to be dealt.

A couple of weeks ago, KTAR 620 AM in Phoenix reported that the D-backs wanted to re-sign Davis rather than trade him and The Arizona Republic reported Saturday that Davis was drawing little interest in the trade market.

To be honest, I’m really surprised that Davis wants to stay here. No, I’m not going on a rant about how the dbacks stink, I just figured that his recent discomfort with the managerial change had alienated him from the organization completely. If he actually wants to stay, I’m more than happy to have him. He’s done good things for us and is a quality piece of a great rotation, once Webb returns. Of course, he might have value enough to help us repair our bullpen…

I for one hope that Doug Davis does stay with the Diamondbacks. I enjoy watching him pitch, just as much as I enjoy watching Webb or Haren. I think he makes a solid #3 starter (behind Webb and Haren, of course), and his value to the team as a leader, an inspirer, and a fan favorite is what’s going to help carry this team past the struggles of this year. Don’t get rid of Doug! We need him!

10 mil for 3 years sounds about right.

You are not going to be competitive with Davis in the rotation. He has proved that in his time with the D’Backs. Having no other team interested in him should tell you something. He must go.

Are you kidding me baldy2? Doug Davis has an ERA of 3.62. That is great for a number 3,4 or 5 starter. Just because he is 7-10 doesn’t mean he sucks. I hope Davis remains in AZ
