Update from the lobby
A couple of quick notes here about the D-backs as we are now halfway through Day 1 of the Winter Meetings:
— The club did send VP of Player Personnel Jerry DiPoto to watch J.J. Putz throw at Fischer Sports in Phoenix and he is a possibility for the D-backs. Now how serious they are about him is not known, but there is definitely interest. My guess is it will have to do with how much Putz ends up costing.
An incentive-based contract would seem to make the most sense for Putz considering he is coming off an injury. The D-backs do not do performance-based incentives, but they did show last year with the Tom Gordon deal that they will instead do roster bonuses. Essentially that pays a player an increasing amount for the time he is on the active roster.
— Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reported that there is nothing going on right now between the D-backs and Braves with regards to Derek Lowe. That’s not surprising. He also mentions that the team does not appear interested in Bronson Arroyo, which is also not a shock.
— I heard the team is not pursuing Detroit’s Jeremy Bonderman right now.
