Status of a blockbuster
I’ve gotten a lot of emails from people confused about the proposed three-way deal between the D-backs, Tigers and Yankees. The main question they ask: Is the deal on or off?
I heard last night that the talks had reached an impasse, but that it was not completely dead. Deals like this are rarely completely dead, but rather there is an ebb and flow. People are quick to describe them as over, but the reality is usually more complicated than that.
You will likely see a lot of different scenarios talked about today, because there are probably a lot of different scenarios being discussed between the teams. ESPN’s Buster Olney told me that a scenario being discussed now has the Yankees getting both Edwin Jackson and Curtis Granderson. That would likely mean that the D-backs are getting another pitcher from the Yankees, quite likely a higher-profile name.
Two things to keep in mind: 1) This deal is not dead and 2) There is still a long way to go before it could get done.
