Hinch to hold meeting with coaches

A.J. Hinch is wasting little time in turning the calendar to 2010.

The D-backs manager will hold a meeting with his coaching staff Jan. 8-10 in Phoenix to go over Spring Training schedules and plans for the upcoming season.

“It’s a way to kick start Spring Training a little bit,” Hinch said. “It’s the first time we’ve been together as a group and I want to make sure we are all on the same page.”

It’s the initial meeting for the group because there have been staff changes since the end of last year.

Gone are base coaches Chip Hale and Lorenzo Bundy. Bo Porter will take over for Hale at third while Matt Williams will be at first in place of Bundy.

The rest of the staff includes Mel Stottlemyre Jr. (pitching), Glenn Sherlock (bullpen), Jack Howell (hitting) and Kirk Gibson (bench).

It sure would be nice if Gibson or Williams would take over managing the team and Hinch would step down along with Byrnes. As it is I see 2010 as an already lost cause and I have not renewed my season tickets.

Getting on the same page should be easy- all he has to do is read everyone what ever Josh Byrnes wrote down for him to say- its all about organizational advocacy and pedigrees so this shouldn’t take three days………

I agree with the last comment … 2010 is a lost cause. I was a season ticket holder from 1998 forward and did not renew my seats for the upcoming season for two reasons. First, the culture of the organization when it started is now entirely gone … as most of the ushers even will tell you. The colors are gone, the feel of the ballpark has changed, and there’s no sense of direction on the team. Second, management gives no inclination that a plan is in place to compete even in the NL West, let alone in the league. Last year it felt like a minor league team for which I was paying $85 a ticket … and there’s no indication that the future will be any different. Very sad decline of a franchise in such as short period of time. As a season ticket holder, I give up on the D-Backs.

I disagree with the previous comments saying the dbacks have no direction, The coaching staff has improved mightly with the addition of Williams and Porter, Stottlemyre has done an amazing job with our pitchers since taking over, and we cannot down Hinch because he is yet to have a full season with the team. This winter the dbacks aquired reliable pitching, something the team has been missing over the past couple seasons, and Webb looks to be healthy for 2010. They have also posted and article reporting Jackson to be ready to play 1st, the team missed his presence last year and he is a pure hitter. Young seems to have come around at the end of last year with his bat and he has always been a good defender. Upton has shown he is the star everyone had expected him to be. Parra had a good rookie year. Montero emerged as possibly one of the best hitting catchers in the league and his defense has improved very much. Don’t forget about the year Reynolds had, which as it seems with his work ethic will only improve. Our middle infeild with Drew and Roberts/Ojeda is one of the best in baseball defense wise. Our 1,2, and now 3 punch can only leave me on edge for 2010

Steve,

Remind AJ that he needs to release Williams, Sherlock and Howell early on Sunday the 10th. They must make it down to Tucson by 4pm for the start of D’backs Fantasy Camp.

Cheers

AJ is meeting with his coaches so they can try and teach him some baseball strategy. To have a manager like this is a joke. I will not renew my season tickets also until we get a manager with experience especially working with young players where one bad at bat or one fielding miscue under pressure could destroy their psyche.

Only years of experience coaching and managing in the minors or majors can make a Major League manager.

It is a shame that AJ was thrown under the bus and made a pseudo-manager.

Does anyone here call themself a fan? Hinch hasnt even had a full year and last years debacle was not his fault. How bout we all give this guy some time before we start with the tar and feather. He put together a staff with good baseball knowledge and is taking the reigns and improving this team (although the scherzer deals still seems weird). Anyway, I like this move by him. Its his “first” year and he knows a lot of work must be done. So he is starting early to give everyone a chance. In my opinion, 2010 will be exciting. I think we will be better and come close to a wild card berth. And for the people who said they wont renew their season tickets, did you renew in 2004 and the years afterward? Those were the worst years we have had and much worse than we are having now. If you have any sort of patience and fanhood in you, you will still go the games and cheer. Go D-Backs!!!
